Australian gov’t official off with the wombats
by friver ~ July 1st, 2008. Filed under: Strange & Funny News, Strange People News.Australia’s Treasury Secretary, Ken Henry, is due for a break. But his choice of vacation spot has opposition politicians going batty… wom-batty.
Henry plans to spend five weeks deep in a Queensland forest, out of cell phone range, caring for a colony of hairy-nosed wombats. Hairy-nosed wombats, unlike common wombats, are an endangered species.
The opposition pols don’t want him out or contact for so long, but the conservation-minded official says everyone is “entitled to have balanced lives”.
