Most of us are far more familiar with Disney’s The Little Mermaid than we are with the original, altogether sadder version first penned by Hans Christian Andersen. As it turns out, the wicked witch of the undersea world, Ursula, didn’t really need to rely on a curse in order to steal Ariel’s lovely voice.

Theoretically, it is entirely possible to keep sound waves from escaping. Working around the methodology which allows light waves to be bent, a professor at prestigious Duke University theorizes that it is possible to do the same to sound waves, thereby stopping them from ever being heard.

The really spooky thing is that sound waves trapped in such a manner, be it by invisible shield or technical contraption, will never escape. That makes me think of being trapped in some sound shielding bubble with my own thoughts — and having to exist forever with my own sound waves as well, echoing forever with nowhere to go.

How many times have you heard the story of Rapunzel? Ah, the long haired maiden rife with split ends, stuck way up high in her isolated tower, constantly at the mercy of a witch while she waits for her prince. He, naturally, is later enticed by the sound of her beautiful singing voice. Of course, we all know that none of that could happen. At the very least, no man could ever climb up a head of human hair, right?

Wrong. It terms out that one average strand of human hair could easily support approximately three and a half ounces of weight. That means you could tie up two candy bars with a strand of your hair, and they would just dangle there, chillin’. Insofar as that goes, dark hair tends to be thicker than fair hair, and that thickness makes dark hair stronger.

Rapunzel was, of course, a blond. Blonds have somewhere around one hundred and forty thousand hairs, so Rapunzel could totally support the weight of her prince, scientifically speaking – but there’s more. While the prince could theoretically climb up home girl’s hair, there is the question of whether or not he’d rip it out by the roots – plus, would she be strong enough to support the prince? Actually, the answer to both questions is yes, as long as she tied her hair around a stable object first. That way, the hair is protected by its knot, and the object supports the prince. So fear not, girls – if you’re willing to let your hair grow a few (dozen) feet, then someday your prince will come.

Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer, two men from Georgia, USA claim that the above picture depicts the frozen corpse of the legendary Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot.

The couple claim that they found the corpse in the woods in northern Georgia and kept it in a freezer for a month, after which they called a press conference and admitted that they wouldn’t mind making money off their “find”.

Later, and to no one’s surprise, the whole thing was proven a hoax.

If you happen to have a little extra room in your life… you might want to make a lot of room for one not-so-little kitty who’s up for adoption.

Her name’s Princess Chunk: 44 pounds of feline tubbiness looking for a home. The current world record stands at a little over 46 pounds, though Guinness World Record officials have discontinued the category in fear of pet owners harming their cats in an attempt to break the record.

Princess was found wandering around Voorhees, New Jersey and is currently in a pet shelter awaiting adoption.
