Bigfoot hunter offers services on Ebay

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

For hundreds of years, Bigfoot has eluded those trying to find him. But who would’ve known that conclusive proof of Bigfoot’s existence was just an Ebay account and a mouse click away? So claims Ebay seller “tpeterson6969″, whose is offering his Sasquatch-finding expertise up for auction on the merchant website. Starting bid is $150,000 if [...]

Lucky, the world’s toughest koala

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

t Old story: wandering koala bear gets hit by a speeding car. New story: koala’s head goes through the grille and is dragged for seven miles in that position. Strangest Science News blog story: Koala survives and is mostly unscathed. The eight-year old Aussie marsupial, not surprisingly named Lucky, is currently recovering at the Australian [...]

Medical horror show

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Check out this assortment of ghouls and nasties, all working for the benefit of medicine. They’re medical training manikins (not mannequins, which you find in shop windows), and they range from creepy to out-and-out slasher film gory, to kinda SF cool (as in the example above). And while you’re at that site, you can vote [...]

Uh, land ahoy, apparently

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

I think the only thing cooler than seeing this 207-foot cruise ship grounded in practically zero water is seeing how freakishly well-balanced it is. How is that thing not tipping over?! What’s also unclear is just how it ended up beached. Right now it’s still unclear if human error or mechanical malfunction is to blame.

Up, up and a-lounge

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

That’s Kent Couch there in the picture, pretty typical 48-year-old gas station owner, relaxing in his pretty typical lawn chair, about to embark on an absolutely non-typical midlife crisis adventure. Last week, Couch completed a 200-mile flight (you read right, flight. All those balloons weren’t for decorative purposes only) across the Oregon desert. He flew [...]

Snakes in a box

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

When Gaye Hurst opened the box of an oxygen generator she’d purchased to use for glass blowing, she thought that two of hoses inside the box looked strange. Upon closer inspection, it turned out they weren’t hoses at all but a couple of rat snakes! The company that sold her the oxygen generator, Unlimited Oxygen, [...]

Australian gov’t official off with the wombats

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Australia’s Treasury Secretary, Ken Henry, is due for a break. But his choice of vacation spot has opposition politicians going batty… wom-batty. Henry plans to spend five weeks deep in a Queensland forest, out of cell phone range, caring for a colony of hairy-nosed wombats. Hairy-nosed wombats, unlike common wombats, are an endangered species. The [...]

A beaut of an ugly dog

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

The annual World’s Ugliest Dog, uh, pageant(?), has been the go-to place for all sorts of proud canine anti-aesthetics. And this year’s competition was no different. From the throng of hopefuls emerged Gus, pictured above. Gus is a pedigree Chinese crested with three legs, one eye, hairless skin except for a tuft on his forehead, [...]

‘Big twins’ add up to 23 pounds at birth

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

The two kids in the picture above may not look like newborns–I’d think they look at least six months old–but twins Sean William Maynard and Abigail Rose Maynard were brought into this world just this week in North Carolina, USA. Sean weighs 10 pounds, 14 ounces while Abigail Rose tips the scales at 12 pounds, [...]

400,000 plastic balls dumped into LA water reservoir

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

People don’t usually toss lots of junk into a city water reservoir, unless as part of a comic-book villain’s plot to take over the world or something. But the Ivanhoe Reservoir in Los Angeles recently got 400,000 shimmering black plastic balls dumped into it for reasons that sound like they also cam from a comic [...]
